I love you …..
Because in spite of a history that began in slavery and genocide, we have fought and struggled and sometimes won in continual efforts to build a republic with justice and liberty for all;
Because some of our forbearers fought for a bill of rights that claims audaciously that we all have inalienable rights to freedom of expression, freedom to organize, and equality before the law;
Because that wild spirit of utopianism and optimism means that we don’t wait for anyone to authorize our work for a better and more inclusive world;
Because for us the arc of the moral universe can bend toward justice. Not because that is the nature of the universe, but because by force of will we are committed to making it so.
And because I love you, I will fight with everything I have, to protect you from all enemies foreign and domestic.
